Subang Jaya has also become known as a higher education hub, with several large colleges, particularly in the commercial district of SS15, namely [1] SEGi College, Cilantro Culinary Academy,Taylor's University College, INTI College, and [2]Metropolitan College. This has led to much of the housing in the area, especially in the Section SS 15 Subang Jaya, being converted to accommodation for students. Many education consultation firms such as IDP Education Australia, which offer advice regarding overseas educational opportunities.

Congestion and limited growing space have led to colleges moving their campuses away from SS15. Sunway University College, and Monash University Malaysia Campus were built situated in nearby Bandar Sunway. One of Subang Jaya's largest colleges, Taylor's University College, will move its campus away from congested, clogged SS15 to a purpose-built Lakeside Campus located in PJS5 in adjacent Bandar Sunway. SEGi College and Cilantro Culinary Academy was developed in UEP Subang Jaya instead of SS15. INTI College Subang Jaya and Metropolitan College, however, seem set to remain in SS15 with the former renovating its campus there.

Subang Jaya also has four national primary schools and many national high schools, as well as one national-type primary school. There are also two private schools, Sri Kuala Lumpur and Sekolah Sri Sedaya which caters for both primary and secondary levels.

Subang Jaya is well-connected to the cities of Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam and the townships of Petaling Jaya, Bandar Sunway and Klang via a network of highways, namely the Federal Highway, the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), the New Pantai Expressway (NPE), the North-South Expressway Central Link and the Damansara-Puchong Expressway.

Persiaran Kewajipan and Persiaran Tujuan are the busiest road in Subang Jaya during rush hour from/to Kuala Lumpur.

One of the current infrastructure development pertaining to Subang Jaya is the construction of a new flyover: the Subang-Kelana Jaya Link connecting the Kewajipan Roundabout of New Pantai Expressway Mes-e10.png towards Subang Airport Highway (route Jkr-ft15.png) of Federal Highway (route Jkr-ft2.png).

Subang Jaya is also served by an urban-suburb rail link, the KTM Komuter, which provides transportation towards Port Klang and also Kuala Lumpur. In August 2006, Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Mohd Najib Abdul Razak announced that the western end of the Kelana Jaya Line would be extended to Subang Jaya as well. Given its high accessibility, ample amenities and strategic location, demand for property in Subang Jaya has soared, pushing prices upwards by as much as over 100% in some areas[citation needed].

Public bus transportation is provided by several companies such as RapidKL, Metrobus, and Triton. These buses provide routes around the township and also to Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur's former primary airport, the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (often referred to as Subang Airport, has since been re-named Skypark after extensive renovation) is located nearby (and within the municipality). It serves as the main hub for turboprop airlines Firefly (a low-cost carrier subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines) and Berjaya Air.

A series of high rise service apartments are currently undergoing rapid development in Subang Jaya. Projects under development include Subang Soho, The Saujana Residency, Jana Towers, First Subang, E-Tiara, Tiaraville, Subang Avenue, and Subang Parkhomes. USJ One Avenue, Tiara Square, and Rhythm Avenue Axis are being developed in neighbouring USJ.

The World's Longest Pencil, a Castell 9000, is located at Faber-Castell's facility in Taman Perisdustrian Sime UEP in USJ.
